How to Make a Tonal Zig Zag Candle

Get creative and make a striking geometric zig zag candle. Learn how to create a marbled tonal masterpiece with our Zig Zag Candle Making Kit.

Our  Zig Zag Candle Making Kits come with all the supplies you need:

  • zig zag silicone mould
  • coconut soy wax
  • wick
  • fragrance oil
  • stirring stick
  • coloured wax dye
  • mixing cups

Step 1 - Prep the Mould

Insert the wick through the holes in the silicone mould.

Step 2 - Melt the Wax

Use the double boiler method to melt one pouch of wax. To do this, half fill a pot or pan with water and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Add your wax to a heat proof jar (metal pitcher or glass measuring jar) and place it into the simmering water to melt. Do not mix the wax with water.

Once the wax is melted, remove it from the heat and stir in one fragrance oil ensuring it is well combined with the wax. Separate the wax between the mixing cups. While the wax is still hot, add in your choice of wax dye and stir it in until it is dissolved. Add different amounts to achieve different tones. Get a friend to help you with this as the wax cools quickly. Leave one cup plain for a natural wax colour.

Allow the wax to cool down for around 5 minutes. If you have a thermometer on hand, a good temperature to aim for it between 50-55 degrees Celsius.

Hot Tip

Simply re heat the wax following step 2 if you are having trouble dissolving the wax dye. Heat will help it dissolve.

Step 3 - Pour the Wax

Get a partner to help you pour the wax into the mould. Place the 4 mixing cups along the mould to plan out the colour placement. You should each hold 2 mixing cups and pour them into the mould next to each other, at the same time for best results.

Allow the candle to set for 24 hours.

Step 4 - Demould

Carefully demould the candle by loosening the silicone from the wax. Gently lift the top half out to release the wick from the mould, followed by the bottom half.

Clean the mould with warm water and pat dry before each use! Repeat the process!
